Interview with id.hAFER

Background

1. When did you start playing ET, and how did you get into it?

That must have been in 2005. At that time I had played a browser game and was on Skype with other people. They were cursing and swearing that was insane. When I asked what was going on they told me about the game and that's how I came across version 2.55. I was 12 at the time.

2. What's your most memorable moment so far in your ET history, and why?

Playing on ETTV for the first time was a highlight for me. Back when it was busier and had really many spectators. That yes was for me full of hype and totally nervous I was oh oh oh :D

3. What do you feel is the most important skill in terms of contributing to winning in ET?

Love for the game and a great relationship with your team. Of course skills like shooting etc. are important. More important for me is the harmony in the team.

4. How does it feel to be the captain of OG and to compete in the LAN event?

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at the beginning if we would even make it to the LAN or get people together. If we look at the participants we are clearly below their skill level. I do not really see myself as a captain :D

The Team at LAN

5. What is your confirmed lineup and the roles of the players?

Germany Mks and Germany Lazy are now for some time my ET companions in terms of cups and sitting together in front of PC, which was also important to me personally to have these 2. Normally Portugal snjh still belongs to the bunch but this had to cancel for work reasons unfortunately. Netherlands Helldembez we know now also already a longer time. Slovenia Kimi we have gained through helldembez. Germany t1mmae is our alcoholic reinforcement.

6. How did the team come together?

I was determined to come for the next lan, this time with full finnish lineup. I was hearing some resistance from guys as half the team hadnt really played ET for ages and werent willing. All it took was one weekend trip to Hazz's cottage and i got 4 out of 6 for the team in place. Lettu wasnt with us at the time so obviously after persuading him to join, we had to go back to the cottage. We had awesome bootcamp despite the cottage being 12c at the start. Gaming went more or less under the influence, tried to keep the normal lan feel in place. Swanidius was joining the team but sadly wasnt able to join the cottage saunaparties :(

7. What's your goal at LAN? Is there a finishing position you are targeting?

We just want to have fun, see one or the other in person, look over the shoulder and have a drink and celebrate with the people. We don't take the whole thing so seriously. Be together and enjoy the time.

8. What would you say was your best performance as a team to date?

Honestly? To date, none :D we are freshly come together and have actually not yet achieved much.

9. Who on your team is most likely to miss their flight and turn up late to LAN?

Hahaha good. The "Captain" himself. As it has now turned out. I'm actually 1 day late and won't be able to participate in DraftCup.

10. How do you prepare for games?

Very little at the moment. We are no longer kids who have a lot of time after school or can stay awake until late at night.

11. What has been your team's biggest challenge leading up to the LAN event, and how have you been working to overcome it?

The booking of accommodation. We knew it in advance that we go there and have steadily postponed. Until then just before barely we have found quite overpriced rooms. What is really annoying.

Predictions

12. Of the teams signed up for the LAN event, what is your prediction for the final rankings?

Hm that is really difficult. Europe exile has been really strong the last week a super dynamic team and not to forget Belgium v56 also very experienced players and super team. Nevertheless, I see Europe OG and Europe Elysium in the final and that will be a close race.

13. Who are you most looking forward to meeting at LAN and why?

Oh there are so many :-) People who were always nice to me no matter how much crap I have built ingame :D The list is long and of course remains anonymous

14. Which player do you think is the most likely to drink so much that they will not be able to play the next day?

Clearly mKs. We leave the rest without comment

15. Are there any particular matchups you are looking forward to?

No, not at all.

The Opposition

16. Out of the opposition players, who is the most difficult to play against, in your opinion?

As said before, skill technically almost all are superior to us.

17. Which team do you think is most likely to pleasantly surprise people (dark horse pick)?

Hmm really don’t know :D maybe us or SDC the weakest Teams on the LAN :D

18. Which opposition player do you feel is most underrated?

Plain, that guy did a big step and improved a lot. Played a few times with him and I was surprised.

The Future

19. What does the future hold for you and the team following LAN?

we really don’t know, let’s see

20. If you could make one change to the game, what would it be?

atm, no ideas :D

21. Are there any maps outside the current eight maps at LAN you would like to see in future tournaments?

Yeah, we could give Oasis a Chance :P
